Approximately how much will it cost to remodel foreclosed home?

stjohns6670 asked:

I found a foreclosed home I’d like to purchase. The home has about 3000 square feet plus a basement. To start, it needs new hard wood floors, paint in every room, new light fixtures in every room, and a new garage door. The kitchen also needs new cabinets and countertops. All three bathrooms also need to be updated. About how much?

Depends on where you live…give more info. (I’m in Chicago)
I’d guess your looking at around $55,000.

Kitchen cabinets and countertops are very expensive, as are new wood floors, even if you’re going with laminiate. We just paid $3000 for a Silestone counter in our kitchen, and paid $5000 for the laminate flooring in 2 rooms and a large hallway. The paint will cost a few hundred, unless you’re going to have it painted by someone, then add quite a bit more onto that.
Your best bet would be to have a contractor come and give you an estimate. The materials you’re going to use will greatly affect that cost of the projects.

Any where from $20,000 to $150,000. It depends on if it’s going to be contracted or do it yourself, and how fancy you want it done.
