What you need to do is to sit in your living area and see what you want to redo. Make a list from the wall color to the carpet. Then see what you can arrange as far as the furniture. Once you move the furniture to the new location, start with the color from the curtains for certian decor you want to place around the living area. Color is the main thing that will make a old room look new. Incorporate paintings from different area of the house and vases and fresh flowers. if you redoing the carpet choose a color that will go along with the color scheme. The furniture will bring out all the decor you have incorporated stick with neutral colors that will blend in. No heavy curtain seek out sheer curtain and scraves that drape that will give the room a great effect. Stand back and take a look at your living room then incorporate your ideas with your style. Plants make a room come alive. Use plants that will survive in low light. Pillows on your furniture will also bring out the color in the room. There you go.

Are you “remodeling” or “redecorating?”
Usually, “remodeling” involves structural changes whereas “redecorating” involves the things you mentioned above.
If I were to remodel…I would start with the windows.
