What is the least expensive way to remodel a small bathroom?

cyndiga asked:

I have an 8×10 bathroom with a tub/shower, toilet, and fiberboard cabinet. There is a semi-useful fan above the tub, and a window between the toilet and tub. The bathroom is high in humidity, and I am always battling moisture mold.

1] get a new fan - it won’t do much good to improve the rest of the bathroom without it!
2] new light fixtures, medicine cabinets
    3] paint
4] shower and window curtains; rugs or carpet; sinktop accessories [ toothbrush holder, soap dish, etc. ]

I agree that a new paint job will make a big difference, but you have two problems to comptemplate, new look and high humidity which leads to mold.A gallon of paint is going to run you $30.00 or so, depending on the brand.Myself, I would install a new vent fan and ducting—cost around $25.00 if you do it yourself{and it isn’t that hard to do!] That will help with the humidity problem, as well as cracking open the window an inch or so when showering. Another not real pricey change would be to give yourwelf a new vanity and sink. I just installed one for less than $200.00 dollars. And again, it isn’t hard to do. What type of flooring do you have? Tile, lino, carpet? You can find carpeting of different colors that is not all that expensive. Or lay new linoleum or tile. You can get tile for less than $1.00 a sq. ft., buy thinset and grout, so for a floor of 80 sq. feet, a new tile floor will cost you about $160.00
if you do it yourself. And again, it really isn’t as hard to do as alot of people think.
    Good luck with your project!
